Dr. Raza is honorary Dean of Fatima University.

Dr. Raza did his MD in 1989 and then went for his PhD in Pharmacology that was completed in 1998.He was visiting PhD student at the Neurology Dept of Virginia Commonwealth University and worked under the supervision of Prof. Robert John Delorenzo. His PhD work involved search for new anticonvulsant compounds from a medicinal herb Delphinium denudatum. His work led to discovery of two new compounds active in both in vivo seizure models and blocked sodium channels revealed by patch clamp studies on cultured hippocampal pyramidal neurons. His postdoc was in the area of neurobiology at VCU, where he studied the effect of direct glutamate exposure on Calcium levels in acutely isolated CA1 pyramidal neurons from post status epilepticus and epileptic animals. Using video enhanced fluorescent microscopy, he found that the Calcium levels were significantly higher and lasted longer leading to death of neurons. He did similar experiments on hippocampal neurons from young and old animals and found that Calcium homeostasis was disturbed in old age. During his initial years as faculty, Dr Raza studied antiepileptic effects of D. denudatum on human hippocampus resected from chronic epileptic patients. Dr. Raza, in addition to teaching Neuroscience, Neuropharmacology and Neurobiology, also teaches Neuroethics, Scientific Writing and Communication Skills and Scientific Ethics. He is the director of faculty development program that involves instruction of various skills in the areas of teaching, research, departmental, faculty and institutional management, research policy issues, academic leadership, curriculum planning, conflict resolution and other necessary skills to the faculty members. Dr. Ahsan Zaidi

After graduation in medicine in 1972,from the illustrious JLN Medical College of Aligarh Muslim University, India, I moved to England soon after completing my mandatory  training under the tutelage of excellent teachers like  Prof Naseem AnsarI and Dr Masood Ashraf.

I did my registrarship in general surgery under the supervision of  Mr Brenden Devlin at North Tees Hospital Stockton UK. Soon after the basic training I moved on to acquire higher surgical training at Lancaster Royal Infirmary , Lancaster under a renowned surgeon, Mr J.S.Whitehead. I acquired further specialised training under  Mr Keith Abel at the famous teaching centre called the  North Middlesex Hospital London.in 1984. Having acquired my fellowship of the college of surgeons of England, and duly completing my higher surgical training it was time to move on in life.

I therefore, moved to Saudi Arabia as the Chief of Surgery at the Civil Hospital Khamees Mushayt  where I stayed for 7 years 1984-1991 this was a challenging job which exposed me to a lot of disease spectrum which I had never seen in UK. My hospital was en route to Mecca al- mukarramah during Hajj season the trauma I treated and operated upon was colossal and gave me immense experience..

I returned to England and did further training .in Laparoscopic colorectal surgery while working at St Helier Hospital as a Consultant Surgeon. This gave me recognition to be included in the Specialist register of  the General medical Council. England..

I am still at St Helier Hospital as a full time Consultant general surgeon

My keen interest in teaching and training juniors, both undergraduate students of the University of London, and surgical trainees of South London Deanery, was duly acknowledged by the competent authority in the shape of  an award as the Best Teacher and popular trainer.

I have published numerous articles, both original and reviews in indexed journals with high impact factor, and continue to share my experience with my colleagues and peers.
